In an interview with the same newspaper that broke Miranda's story of serial murders, the Sunbury Daily Item, Barbour's father, Sonny Dean followed suit and gave an interview as well, telling them he does not believe her tale of killings.
Sonny Dean told Item reporters in an interview on Wednesday that he does not believe what his daughter has said about repeated killings through several states, but did say that it was possible that she participated in a murder in the state of Alaska at an early age. In his interview, Dean said that his daughter did disappear from home on two occasions at the age of 13 and 14 for a period of approximately 48 hours each time and that he does not know what took place during those disappearances.
But, Dean told reporters that his daughter could not have committed murders in California and Texas as she had been to California only once and to Texas only a few times, and during those times, she was never out of his sight.
Dean went on to say that his daughter got hooked on heroin at a very early age, and spent most of her young life in and out of treatment, but was very manipulative and always managed to talk doctors into releasing her. He said to the Daily Item, “She is the most manipulative person I have ever known.”
Dean also stated that after his daughter moved to North Carolina, she stayed with her aunt and uncle who kept a close eye on her.
Of her tale to reporters last Friday, Dean would say Miranda is simply a liar. “Miranda lives in a fantasy world made up in her own mind,” Dean said. “She craves attention, is selfish, dishonest and manipulative.”
Dean said during his interview, if his daughter is convicted of the murder of Troy LaFerrrara and is executed for her crtime, that he would hold the hand of LaFerrara’s widow and silently pray that some good comes of it.
Since her interview on Friday, Miranda Barbour has gained global attention and now has a fan page on Facebook begun on Monday. It currently has 65 likes.
Miranda Barbour is currently in jail, as is her husband Ellytte Barbour, charged with the murder of Troy LaFerrara in a vicious “thrill kill” stabbing in November.
