April 30, 2012, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today signed legislation establishing Alaska National Guard Day on July 30 of each year to honor the men and women of the Alaska National Guard.
“We are very proud of our uniformed men and women in the Alaska National Guard and their families,” Governor Parnell said. “This is a small token of appreciation for all that they sacrifice to keep us safe and secure. We witnessed their swift action to help dig out the residents of Cordova this winter, and now that the spring flooding season is upon us, we know the Alaska National Guard is always ready and always there. While we are reminded of the great work they do every day in Alaska, we also recognize the many Guardsmen deployed overseas defending our country.”
House Bill 247, sponsored by Representatives Bob Lynn, Dan Saddler, and Steve Thompson, was signed at the Gamble-Sperl Joint Use Facility in Juneau.
