A Buckland woman was flown to out of Buckland with injuries after she was wounded in an altercation with a Buckland man on Sunday night.
The mayor of Buckland contacted Alaska State Troopers at 10 pm on Sunday night to report that a 25-year-old woman in the village had been shot by her 27-year-old husband, he reported to troopers that the two had been in an altercation that suddenly escalated.
Buckland Mayor Tim Gavin went on to report that he had gone to assist and was watching through the window when he saw the man “arm himself with a rifle” and yell that “he would not give up and return to jail.” Mayor Gavin said that he then saw the man go into the bedroom and he heard a shot being fired before the man returned into view with his rifle and this time carrying a toddler as well.
The man then gave himself up and was taken into custody.
Meanwhile, the woman was still in the house and could be heard screaming. When found, the woman was suffering from non-life-threatening wounds to her head as well as a partially severed finger at the first joint.
The woman was flown out of the village for treatment.
The husband was also flown out to Kotzebue where he was remanded to the Kotzebue Jail on charges of Felony Assault and Domestic Violence Assault.
Alaska State Troopers responded to the village and their investigation into the incident is continuing.
The baby was unharmed.
