Alaska Fish and Wildlife officers in Coldfoot were contacted early Friday morning at 6:55 by the Chandalar Department of Transportation Camp that one of their employees had taken a serious fall and was suffering from significant injuries at the camp.
During the early morning hours of Friday, 28-year-old Bruce, and 33-year-old Grant Ilutsik, heard their boats banging around in the storm moving through the area and so went to investigate.
At 7:55pm on Thursday, when his brother, Rex Iyatunguk, and his family did not arrive as scheduled from Nome, where they had left at 2 pm, Preston Dixon of Teller contacted the troopers in Nome to report them overdue.
While on patrol near Pegar Road and Phillips Field Road on Wednesday, the Bureau of Highway Patrol observed a truck traveling on the road with the windshield covered in ice obscuring the driver’s view. As a result, the vehicle was pulled over.
