On Wednesday, Alaska's Governor Parnell welcomed the efforts of the Alaska Retirement Management Board to divest interest in companies doing business in Iran. Over the past two months, since the board passed a resolution on September 20th, it has divested more than $15 million from businesses with ties to that country.
A traffic accident on the Palmer-Fishhook Road sparked a fire that was fanned into a major blaze by winds clocked at 40 mph with gust to 60 mph in the Mat-Su Valley on Thursday afternoon.

On Tuesday, in Kenai, Governor Parnell announced that the 2014 budget will contain $10 million as a first part of a five-year, $30 million Comprehensive King Salmon Research Initiative. The Research Initiative will seek an understanding of the factors that influence the the abundance of King Salmon statewide.
