An early morning argument over alcohol and a folding chair erupted in gunfire when one of the people involved in the argument pulled a handgun and fired off rounds on Saturday morning.
Alaska State Troopers were notified of the disturbance at 5:05 am on Saturday morning and responded to the scene at the Knik River Campground near the Knik River Bridge near milepost 9.
The trooper’s investigation at the scene revealed that 38-year-old Steven Pugh of Chugiak went to the campsite of another party at the grounds and accused those people of stealing his alcohol and a folding chair. The argument got out of hand and Pugh producced a handgun and shot out the tire of the camper’s vehicle. Then after deflating the tire, proceeded to fire several more rounds into the air.
After the incident, Pugh fled the scene, but was apprehended by troopers at mile 26 of the Glenn Highway.
Upon contact, Pugh was promptly arrested and charged with Reckless Endangerment, and Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV.
Pugh was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded and his bail set at $2,500 and a Court Approved Third Party Custodian.
