Coast Guard Finds, Retrieves Body of Man Who Jumped from Sitka Bridge

The Monday trooper dispatch reported that Sitka-based troopers were advised just before nine AM on Saturday morning of an ongoing search being carried out by the Sitka Fire Department and the United States Coast Guard in the Sitka Channel for a missing Bellingham, Washington, man.

According to the report, it was at about 11 PM on Friday night, that Washington man, 29-year-old Tyler Jones, jumped from the John O’Connell Bridge with the intentions of swimming to shore. But, Jones was not seen, and could not be located after jumping from the bridge.

The search for Jones continued throughout Saturday morning, and at 11 AM, the Coast Guard located Jones. He was declared deceased at that time. His next of kin was notified.

The Sitka Police Department is continuing the investigation into his death.
