A Cordova man suffered a fatal fall while hunting Goat on a mountain in Wells Bay Saturday.
According to Alaska State Troopers reports, after 38-year-old Cordova resident Jay Hammerbacher took a fall from the mountain on Saturday, his hunting partner, 27 -year-old Lance Uselman, also of Cordova climbed to him and found him unconscious.

Another hunting party in the area lended assistance and at that time, it was determined that Hammerbacher was deceased.
Alaska State Troopers in Glennallen were notified of the accident at 10:41 am on Saturday, but high winds and weather that was deteriorating quickly hampered recovery efforts by AST Helo one.
Although the hunters were able to return safely, Hammerbacher’s remains were left on the mountain. Troopers are waiting on weather to break in order to carry out recovery efforts.
Next of kin were notified and Hammerbacher’s remains will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.
The investigation into Hammerbacher’s death is continuing.
