(ANCHORAGE, Alaska) — During late September, the Alaska State Troopers partnered with federal and local law enforcement agencies and participated in the DEA’s Drug Take Back event. From Bethel to Anchorage and Nome down to Craig, Alaskans safely discarded 2,305 pounds of prescription medication. Drug Take Back events help to keep medications out of the hands of abusers, as well as prevent contamination of ground water, through proper disposal.
Communities participating in the Medicine Take Back Program were Anchorage, Aniak, Bethel, Craig, Dillingham, Emmonak, Fairbanks, Fort Wainwright, Glennallen, Juneau, Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Kotzebue, Nome, North Pole, Soldotna, St. Mary’s and North Pole.
The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank everyone who took advantage of the opportunity. More information on Drug Take Back events can be found at:https://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/index.html
