Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell on Monday accepted the resignation of Department of Public Safety (DPS) Commissioner Joe Masters. Commissioner Masters started his law enforcement career in 1982 as a public safety officer in the village of Unalakleet.
Masters rose through the department becoming deputy director of the Alaska State Troopers, a position he held until his retirement in 2005. He was named commissioner of DPS in 2008.
Masters has accepted a job in the private sector and will remain in Alaska.
“A proven leader and tireless advocate for Alaskans, Joe will be missed,” Governor Parnell said. “Coming up through the ranks, Joe has made a difference in countless lives across our state. He has been a valuable asset to my administration and I wish him all the best as he embarks on this new opportunity.”
Commissioner Master’s resignation is effective October 15. A copy of his resignation letter is available at:
