Drive-By in New Orleans Kills Two, Wounds Five

A drive-by shooting in New Orleans wreaked havoc in the Lower 9th Ward on Sunday night when the shooters killed a man in his 20s, a sixteen-year-old woman and wounded another five people.

Three of those wounded were children. Two of the children, boys ages two and four  were in critical condition, along with another woman. A 13-year-old girl and another 37-year-old woman were in stable condition at last report. The 37-year-old woman was treated and released from the hospital on Monday.

The shooting in the 9th Ward took place about five miles outside the tourist section of the French Quarter of the city. According to police reports, a dark-colored vehicle with several African-American men inside drove up to the area where the shooting took place, opened fire on the people and then sped from the scene.

The sixteen-year-old girl, identified as Jasmine Anderson, was an innocent bystander who had been walking by after going to the store for a bottle of water when the gunmen pulled up.
