A Fairbanks-based Alaska State Trooper responding to a call at a church in North Pole would find himself the subject of an attack on Sunday night.
A trooper responded to a call that came in at 9:39 pm on Sunday night reporting a man passed out on the steps of a local church in North Pole. When the trooper arrived on the scene, he tried to wake the sleeping man, now identified as 28-year-old Michael McCoy.
But, when the man awoke, he attempted to assault the officer, then attempted to place the officer in a choke hold according to the trooper dispatch.
The officer was eventually able to subdue McCoy, but in the process, broke his own hand.
Further investigation would find that McCoy had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. McCoy was charged with Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, and Probation Violation as well as the warrant.
McCoy was transported to the Fairbanks Jail where he was remanded on the charges.
