The woman who harbored the Fairbanks fugitive Julius “JT” Chambers after he escaped from the Fairbanks police on June 16th, is now herself in the custody of the Fairbanks Police Department.
35-year-old Cindy Roeder, who goes by her maiden name Cindy Seurer, was arrested outside of the courtroom during a hearing for Chambers on Thursday. She was led out of the courtroom and handcuffed and charged with Hindering Prosecution I.
Roeder said earlier in the week that she had reached out to Chambers after his escape from the police and offered her home to him to hide out at. During Chambers time at Roeder’s home they worked to disguise his appearance by dying his hair blonde. According to Roeder, the two are now a couple, she reports that they found love during his time on the lam.
Roeder said that she was aware that the act of harboring Chambers was a jailable offense but did it anyway as she believed that Chambers was innocent of the charges that led to his arrest.
Chambers was arrested on June 16th for violation of his probation on the original charge of Assault IV/Resisting Arrest, according to Lt Dan Welborn of Fairbanks Police.
Chambers is being held at the Fairbanks Jail on no bail.
