The Federal Reserve announced on Wednesday that they will begin releasing the new $100 bill on October 8th of this year.
The new note, that has been in development for over a decade will sport two new security features such as a blue 3-D security ribbon and the liberty bell in the ink well. The new bill will retain the portrait watermark and the embedded security thread.
The three dimensional ribbon will show alternately bells and the nuimber 100 embedded in the ribbon. The new bell and inkwell symbol will change from a golden hue to green when tilted. These added features aid in the identification of the note as well as makes the note much harder to duplicate or counterfeit.
The new bill was unveiled in 2010, but because of unexpected production challenges, the prodution was delayed.
