Anchorage resident, 57-year-old Esther Micua was driving northbound at mile 27.5 of the Edgerton Highway in a 27-foot motorhome that was towing a four-wheeler on a trailer in the early morning hours when she drove off of the road. As a result, she overturned her motorhome and trailer.
Micua and her passenger were able to exit the vehicle uninjured. But, after getting out of the vehicle, the motorhome caught on fire. The fire would soon engulf the entire motorhome, the trailer and the four-wheeler it was hauling. Ultimately, the flames would spread to a wooded area and create a brush fire.
Volunteer firefighters from Chitina, Kenny Lake and Strelna responded to the blaze as did the State Forestry firefighters. The State Department of Transportation also came to the scene and assisted.
The fire was successfully brought under control and extinguished with no injuries reported.
The vehicle and four-wheeler were a total loss.
