Former Port Williams Hunting/Fishing Guide Charged in Shuyak Island Homicide

Troopers report that 44-year-old Steven Ridenour, of Anchorage has been charged in the death of 56-year-old Steven McCaulley of Port Williams on Shuyak Island.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on Shuyak Island in November of 2015. It was on November 17th, that troopers received a request to do a welfare check on McCaulley, who was at the remote Port Williams, 50 miles to the north of Kodiak.

When they arrived at the remote location, they discovered that McCaulley was had died  from of a gunshot wound. Troopers quickly developed a potential suspect in the homicide and contacted the Anchorage Police Department about the man now identified as Ridenour. McCaulley’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.

Anchorage Police soon arrested Ridenour, who had been employed at the lodge as a caretaker/hunting and fishing guide. He was arrested on outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrants, one of which was a failure to remand to jail, and so, Ridenour was placed in custody and unable to post bail.

On Tuesday, January 12th, Ridenour was charged with Murder I and Tampering with Physical Evidence in the case. He was still behind bars on the unrelated warrants. His bail is set at $250,000 and a Court Approved Third Party Custodian.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
