Brian Fraley has been hired to serve as the Alutiiq Museum’s Communications Director, a position that oversees promotion of the museum. Fraley will lead marketing and advertising for the organization, manage its social media, and act as press liaison.
He will also complete graphic design projects for exhibits, publications, and marketing and contribute to supporting the museum’s community and membership outreach efforts. He begins work at the end of January.
Fraley grew up in Kodiak and relocated to Seattle in 1993 where he obtained his degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Seattle. His career in graphic design and creative direction in Seattle and New York City have included the design and development of corporate brands, websites, books and magazines, environmental installations, and a grocery store. Notable clients he’s worked with include Microsoft, Hasbro, Nintendo, and musician Fred Schneider. Most recently, Fraley was Art Director at Anchorage advertising agency Walsh|Sheppard where he could be closer to family in the Mat-Su Valley.
“My family left Kodiak soon after I graduated from KHS, and it wasn’t until my 20-year class reunion in 2012 that I finally came back to visit. As soon as I smelled the Kodiak air when I got off the plane, I knew I was home. It’s exciting not only to be living on the island again, but to be working with an organization that works so hard to sustain the Alutiiq heritage. I’m looking forward to helping the Museum reach new audiences and raise our community’s interest in Kodiak’s Native history.”
The Alutiiq Museum, a non-profit organization, preserves and shares the heritage and culture of the Alutiiq, an Alaska Native tribal people. Representatives of Kodiak Alutiiq organizations govern the museum with funding from charitable contributions, memberships, grants, contracts, and sales. Our vision is to celebrate Alutiiq heritage through living culture.
