Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell Friday appointed Marjorie Allard to the Alaska Court of Appeals. Allard will fill the vacancy created by the forthcoming retirement of Chief Judge Robert Coats.
“Ms. Allard’s legal skills and temperament suit her well for a position on the bench,” Governor Parnell said. “We look forward to her service on the Court of Appeals.”

Allard, of Anchorage, recently became a staff attorney at the Court of Appeals. She formerly served as an assistant public defender, first working on criminal appeals and eventually litigating child-in-need-of-aid cases and appeals. Allard also served at the Office of Public Advocacy, working on felony trials. She was a civil litigator with the law offices of Richmond & Quinn. A board member of the Alaska Hemophilia Association, she is also a member of the Stone Soup Group and the Inlet View Parent-Teacher Association. Allard earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Yale University and a juris doctorate from Yale Law School.
The Court of Appeals has the authority to hear appeals in cases involving criminal prosecution, post-conviction relief, juvenile delinquency, extradition, habeas corpus, probation and parole, bail, and sentencing matters.
