Prolonged flooding in the interior of Alaska prompted Alaska's Governor Parnell to amend the Declaration of Disaster Emergency for 2013.

The amendment to the Declaration of Disaster extended the disaster area to include the Lower Yukon Regional Education Attendance area which includes the communities of Emmonak and Alakanuk.
Those areas suffered prolonged flooding due to ice jams and high run-of because of the rapid increase in temperatures as spring progressed.
The governor’s amendment will make the State Disaster Public and Individual assistance programs available to these additional areas. Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments with the Federal Emergency Management Agency are continuing in the various affected communities to determine the extent of the damages and potential for federal assistance.
