Troopers stated on Sunday that the collapse of an Angoon home on Friday was probably caused by high winds and rain in the area last week.

It was at approximately 9:40 pm, that the Angoon Village Public Safety Officer responded to a report of a structure collapse in the small southeast community of Angoon on Admiralty Island. The VPSO reponded to the scene on Beaver Trail Street to find that a house, constructed on stilts, had collapsed and fell to the beach there. A large boulder there kept the house from falling into the sea.

Angoon Fire and EMS also responded to the scene to treat the lone occupant of the home for minor injuries. Power and water lines were also secured at that time.

The home is expected to be a total lose, troopers say.
