A huge fire broke out in Bethel on Monday night, engulfing the yet to be completed Alcohol Treatment Center behind the Bethel Post Office there.
When firefighters arrived at the scene after it was reported just after 8 pm last night, the 12.65 million structure was already fully engulfed in flames. The 16-bed facility was in its second year of its planned three-year construction.
Firefighters fought the flames throughout the night in the rain and snow. No one was injured in the incident.
Fire investigators, due to arrive at the scene on Tuesday are investigating the origins of the fire. The building was insured against the fire and adjusters will visit the scene today as well.
The treatment center, that was primarily funded by the state of Alaska, had had its dedication and beam signing on August 20th of this year.
