Officials at Alaska’s #1 Springtime guessing game, the Nenana Ice Classic, report that the watchman is now on duty, and keeping an eye on the tripod.

They report that the ice is deteriorating at a rapid pace and it is expected that the tripod will trip in the next couple of days.

They also report that the Nenana River went out on Wednesday evening and that the river is opening up 3/4 of a mile upriver from the tripod. It is generally a matter of a few short days after the Nenana River goes out at the confluence of the Nenana River and Tanana River that the river at the tripod location follows suit.

Temperatures in the region are continuing to climb, and temps in the 60s are expected, while temperatures at night will remain above freezing.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
