It was on Monday at 4:49 pm that Soldotna State Troopers were alerted to an incident on Six-Mile Creek near Hope where a raft operated by NOVA River Rafting overturned, spilling the rafters into the water.
The other rafters pulled a 47-year-old man from the water who was unresponsive and not breathing. They administered CPR to the man, who by then had no disernable heartbeat. Through their efforts, the man regained a heartbeat and he was transported to Providence Hospital in Anchorage for treatment via LifeMed helicopter.
But, unfortunately, the man did not survive the ordeal and was pronounced deceased at the hospital at 2:30 am on Tuesday morning.
On Thursday, troopers released the identity of the man. His name was Steve Morton, he was a 47-year-old Cambridge, England resident.
Morton’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy and his next of kin were notified.
