A DeHavilland Beaver owned and operated by Island Air Service of Kodiak struck a rock during take-off at Long Lagoon near Kodiak yesterday.
The aircraft was conducting a post maintenance flight, when it landed in Long Lagoon yesterday. On board the aircraft were two mechanics and the pilot. Upon take-off, it hit a rock and shortly thereafter sank.
The three occupants of the aircraft were rescued about 20 minutes after being forced into the water.
Clint Johnson, of the National Transportation Board said that one of the victims of the accident suffered mild hypothermia and was met at the pier in Kodiak and treated for the injury. The other two occupants of the plane were un-injured.
