 The 50th Annual Meeting of the Kodiak Area Native Association will be held this year on Saturday, October 1, 2016 for the purposes of electing four (4) Directors to the Board, and to conduct such other business as may properly come before the meeting.
Registration will begin at 1 p.m. followed by Call to Order of the meeting at 1:30 p.m. at the
Afognak Native Corporation, located at 300 Alimaq Drive (Near Island), Kodiak, AK.
The following tribal chapters will each elect one Director at this year’s meeting:
- Native Village of Larsen Bay
- Native Village of Ouzinkie
- Tangirnaq Native Village of Woody Island
- Gwangkuta Suuget/At-Large

Sliding Scale Fee Discount Available for Medical, Behavioral Health and Specified Dental Services

| As part of Kodiak Area Native Association’s vision that the best quality service be available to all people on Kodiak Island, KANA now offers a sliding fee discount for patients and members of their families who fall below 200% of the poverty guidelines as set forth in the Alaska Federal Poverty Level; which is updated annually. The sliding fee discount is offered for Medical, Behavioral Health, and specified dental services. Income levels are based on total family income and size.
At registration, patients will be asked for brief income information which will be used to determine possible eligibility for the Sliding Fee Discount Program. Patients who qualify and wish to apply for the Sliding Fee Discount Program will be required to complete a more detailed application and provide verification of income. Patients who choose to submit an application for a Sliding Fee Discount must provide all required information, including gross income and family size.
In order to verify gross family income, the patient must present at least one document for all applicable household members; a list of documents that KANA accepts to verify income can be acquired at the front desk. A patient may initially self-report gross family income at the first visit but will be required to provide supporting documentation within 30 days or before their next visit or family member’s visit, whichever occurs first, if they wish to continue to receive the discount.

Rural Community Health Aides Graduate in Kodiak

Last week, KANA was proud to see Community Health Aides Program (CHAP) trainees graduate into service as Providers for our rural communities. From July 11th-22nd, Alicia Inga of Old Harbor, Donene Amodo of Akhiok, Genny Miller of Ouzinkie, and Margie Helms of Larsen Bay began the first ever CHAP training here in Kodiak. Over the course of the training, Health Aides received EMS, I/V and blood draw instruction and demonstrated mastery of their skills before their instructors and support team. The trainees completed an on-site final session of training before graduating as the first cohort of a new model of Health Aide Training which requires completion the didactic coursework online and demonstrating skills in a face-to-face training.
KANA is proud to support the Community Health Aide Program in partnership with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, and support our CHA/Ps for their vital role within our health care system. CHA/Ps are part of an established referral relationship that includes mid-level providers, physicians, regional hospitals, and the Alaska Native Medical Center.
The CHAP model is a unique, successful, and culturally acceptable health care delivery system which sustains one of the most important health care Providers roles for our rural communities.
