An Alabama man was taken into custody early Sunday after he barricaded himself into a residence near mile six of the South Tongass highway prior to barricading himself in the home he had been burglarizing it.
32-year-old Alabama man Richard Wilson had broken into a residence in Ketchikan and was in the process of burglarizing the home when the homeowner returned to his house. Wilson, who had armed himself with one of the homeowners firearms, “ordered the homeowner out of the residence and then proceeded to barricade himself inside,” reported the trooper dispatch.
The assault/burglary was reported to the Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan, who responded to the scene and set up a perimeter around the residence.
An Alaska State Trooper Crisis negotiator also responded to the scene. The negotiator “opened a line of communication which led to Wilson exiting the residence,” says troopers.
Wilson was taken into custody and charged with Felony Burglary I x2, and Assault III. Wilson was remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center with his bail set at $10,000 plus a Court Approved Third Party Custodian.
