After receiving a report of a Kivalina man had been holding two victims against their will in that community, Alaska State Troopers responded to Kivalina to address the situation on Saturday.
The caller, at 6:30 am, reported to troopers that they had gone to a family member’s residence to check on that person. But, upon entering the residence, the caller reported that they were assaulted by 30-year-old John Booth and then was not allowed to leave. The caller also reported that they made good their escape when Booth had “passed out” according to the trooper dispatch.
The caller related to troopers that they were concerned for the safety of the family member still left at the residence.
Troopers traveled to the community and contacted Booth, Booth was subsequently arrested for Assault III, Kidnapping, Interference wqith Official Proceedings, and Disorderly Conduct. The Assault III charge is due to Booth having more than two previous Assault IV convictions in the past ten years. Three of the charges leveled against Booth are Felonies.
Booth was transported to the Kotzebue Regional Jail. He appeared in court on Sunday and was appointed a public defender.
