Kobuk Officer Punched in Face after Disarming Combatant

rural trooperThe Village Police Officer in Kobuk was assaulted during a call out to a fight involving intoxicated combatants on Monday night.

The Kobuk Village Police Officer responded to a fight at 11 pm on Monday night. When he arrived at the scene, one of the combatants was yelling threats at another, seconds later, the combatant, 22-year-old Evan Commack, grabbed a rifle.

The VPO was not armed and had responded to the incident without any backup. But, despite this, the VPO was able to disarm Commack and relieved him of the rifle. In response, Commack punched the officer in the face.

The VPO left the scene with the rifle.

The VPO reported the incident to the Alaska State Troopers, who in turn, opened an investigation into the incident. Troopers charged Commack with Assault IV on an Officer, Assault III on an Officer and Misconduct Involving a Weapon IV.

Commack was transported to the Kotzebue Regional Jail where he was remanded.
