The Anchorage police have stated that a dead man was found in Ship Creek near downtown Anchorage on early Tuesday.

Although the man had identification, and the police are fairly confident they know who the man is, they are awaiting a positive identification from the medical examiner to notify his next of kin and release his name to the public.

The man’s body was floating face-down upriver from Ship Creek Dam when it was found just prior to 7 am this morning. In order to retrieve the body, a gate on the dam needed to be opened.

The police say that there are no immediate signs of foul play and the body still had personal items such as phone, money and other items on it when found.
