On Saturday, after receiving a tip informing them of the whereabouts of, Aaron Vanormer, who was wanted on manslaughter charges for the death of his 2-month-old daughter since late December, Alaska State Troopers in Wasilla responded to a Wasilla residence and contacted both Vanormer and his girlfriend.

Initially, both 29-year-old Vanormer and his girlfriend were non-compliant, eventually Vanormer exited the residence and gave himself up to the responding officers.

A $50,000 warrant had been issued for the arrest of Vanormer in mid-December for an incident in June of 2014. It was at that time that Anchorage police responded to room 17 at the Spenard Motel after receiving a call reporting Vanormer’s two-month-old daughter laying motionless in the room’s bathtub.

The infant was discovered by the father of Vanormer’s wife, the grandfather to the small child. When the grandfather stopped by on June 23rd, Vanormer would tell him that his wife, Vanessa Wulf, had picked up the child. But, the grandfather knew Wulf to be in jail on probation violations.

A quick search of the room would find the child in the bathtub. The grandfather ran from the room hollaring for someone to call 911. When the grandfather returned, Vanormer had moved the child to the kitchette’s counter.

When police arrived, Vanormer told them that Wulf had placed the child in the tub. Vanormer also told police that he had argued with Wulf when she did so. But, Vanormer also told police that he hadn’t slept in 2 or 3 days. Police believe that Vanormer was hallucinating and had been using the synthetic drug “Spice” heavily during the time leading up to the discovery of the child.

But, police would also discover a suicide note in the room, one that Vanormer denied that he had written. That note said,

To the family: I am so sorry that I could help bring such a beautiful girl in this world and then snuff that life right out I could not go on living looking at you all and be like nothing happened.

Vanormer who has a myriad of past charges, including two prior felonies, was not initially arrested in the case, but after a lengthy investigation, a warrant for $50,000 charging Vanormer with Manslaughter was issued in mid-December.

An autopsy carried out by the State Medical Examiner would find no trauma to the child, but would discover a small amount of water in the baby’s lungs. The Examiner concluded that the child had been dead for hours before her discovery.
