Nome based-Alaska State Troopers report that they received a report on Tuesday, of a missing snow-machiner who was attempting to travel from Nome to Koyuk.

According to troopers, 26-year-old Koyuk resident, Jeffery Kimoktoak, began his trek via snow-machine on Sunday. Kimoktoak initially set out alone, on his new Polaris Pro S, and made it as far as the vicinity of Isaac’s Point, but had to turn back “because he could not locate the trail-head going into the forest due to a ground storm,” the trooper dispatch revealed.

Kimoktoak, returned to Elim, then set out again on Sunday night at approximately 10:30 pm in another attempt.

After being notified of the missing snow-machiner, AST requested assistance of the Rescue Coordination Center.

Ground searchers from Elim and Koyuk set out on a search in an effort to locate Kimoktoak on Monday without success. They continued their search on Tuesday, and at 7:46 pm, it was reported that searchers had located Kimoktoak alive and well.

Kimoktoak was located near Salmon Creek approximately 60 miles to the north of Elim. It was reported that Kimoktoak built a fire to stay warm as he awaited rescue. He was brought back to Elim and reported no injuries.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
