Napaskiak Man Kills Puppy then Throws it at Window

According to the trooper dispatch, a Napaskiak man was arrested on Animal Cruelty, Criminal Trespass and Stalking charges following a Saturday incident in that community.

According to the report, 45-year-old Kathryn Joekay contacted the community’s Village Public Safety Officer and reported that her nephew’s puppy had been killed and thrown against her nephew’s bedroom window on Saturday afternoon.

An investigation into the incident was opened and resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Alexie Evan. According to troopers, Evan, is suspected of killing the puppy by smashing its head before throwing its bloodied remains at the woman’s nephew’s window. Afterwards, he said to have attached a threatening note, that included a racial slur, to the dead animal.

The threats in the note were directed at the nephew and his wife, who is the suspect’s ex-girlfriend.

Earlier incidents were reported by the aunt, she reported to troopers that Evan had spray painted a derogatory remark on the nephew’s tool shed. That incident occurred when the nephew’s wife was out of town, The wife was afraid to return to the community after that incident and was concerned for the safety of her seven-month-old child. It is alleged that Evan had threatened the woman telling her that if she ever got pregnant from someone other than him, he would take that child’s life.

Evan was charged with two counts of Stalking II, a count of Criminal Trespass and another for Animal Cruelty. He was transported to Bethel where he was remanded to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center.

Napaskiak, with its estimated population of just over 400, is approximately 60 miles from the Bering Sea on the southern bank of the Kuskokwim River and about six miles south of Bethel.
