During the early morning hours on Saturday, at approximately 2:48 am, Alaska State Troopers pulled over a blue, 1999 Ford near mile 12 of the Kenai Spur Highway according to trooper dispatch.
After the vehicle was stopped an officer contacted the driver. The driver provided the officer with several false names in an effort to remain unidentified. Shortly thereafter, troopers were able to ascertain the true identity of the driver. He was identified as 55-year-old Nikiski resident William John Davidson.
After his true identity was revealed, it was found that Davidson’s driver’s license had been revoked for a prior DUI. It was also found that Davidson was on supervised probation for Felony DUI. Once his identity was discovered, Davidson sped away in the vehicle while the trooper was still at the driver’s side window. The trooper jumped back to avoid injury.
Davidson took troopers on a 25-mile high-speed chase to and through Kenai and on to the Kenai Spur Road to Nikiski. At times the chase reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.
At Holt Lamplight Road, tire defflation devices were deployed and successfully utilized, but Davidson continued on his flight from the law. But, he would soon becoms stuck in a field, still, he fled on foot in an attempt to further evade the officers. After a short pursuit, Davidson was apprehended.
When searched at the time of his arrest, Davidson was found to be in possession of methamphetamine as well.
After fleeing his vehicle, the car caught on fire and burned.
Davidson was charged with Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer I, Assault III, Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV, Driving While License Revoked, Making a False Report and Probation Violation.
Davidson was arraigned on his charges later Saturday morning. His next court appearance is on the afternoon of June 10th.
