North Pole Woman Dies in Summit Lake Avalanche

At 2:54 pm on Sunday, Alaska State Troopers received a report  of an avalanche in the mountains near Summit Lake. It was reported that by-standers at the scene dug her out of the snow, and performed CPR, but, efforts were unsuccessful.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Claire Sundgren, of North Pole, was declared deceased at the scene. Troopers, as well as the Fort Greely Fire Department and Delta Medical responded to the scene and her body was retrieved and sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.

The area near where the avalanche occurred near Paxson is where the Arctic Man Classic snow machine event is opening today.

Sundgren’s next of kin were notified of the incident.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
