At 2:01 pm on December 8th, the newly-formed trooper-based Violent Offender’s Unit received a call from Kasigluk reporting a sexual assault. Troopers traveled to the community to investigate.
Troopers stated that the initial report that they received was that 19-year-old Nicholas Brink of Nunapitchuk was driving his snow-machine around the village of Kasigluk trying to receive “help” from young women, then pulling them onto his snow-machine and driving them out onto the tundra. Once there, according to troopers, Brink would attempt to sexually assault them.
During their investigation in the village, a woman came forward and reported that she had been one of Brink’s victims.
As troopers traveled to the community of Nunapitchuk on December 13th to continue their investigation, another woman in that village came forward and reported that she too had been victimized by Brink.
At 10:45 am on Tuesday, troopers arrested Brink and charged him with Sexual Assault I, Attempted Sexual Assault I, Kidnapping I, Attempted Sexual Assault II x2, and Burglary I. Brink was transported to Bethel and remanded to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center.
Troopers say that due to the information gleaned from their investigation, that they believe that other women have been victimized by Brink. They are encouraging any additional victims to contact Trooper Hayes with the Bethel VOU at 907-543-2294. They are asking any witnesses to do the same.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
