HOMER, Alaska-On Sunday morning, Soldotna dispatch received a call reporting a motor vehicle collision that occurred at mile 22 of East End Road to the east of Homer, Alaska. When Kachemak Emergency Services and the Alaska State troopers arrived at the scene, they found one occupant of the two vehicles deceased.
According to the Alaska State troopers, a 2005 Ford F-150 operated by Peter Basargin of Homer, was westbound headed towards town with another vehicle, a 2003 Honda Pilot traveling behind. The Honda was being driven by Cornily Reutov, age 45. As the two vehicles began their ascent up a steep grade near Voznesenka Road, the Ford F -150 lost traction and began to slide back down the hill. The Ford impacted the Honda coming up the hill behind. After the impact, both vehicles slid down the hill before coming to a rest in the ditch.
Agafia Polushkin, a passenger in the Honda Pilot, was not wearing her seat belt. She was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of injuries. Another of the Pilot’s occupants was transported to the South Kenai Peninsula Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Agafia Polushkin’s remains were taken to the medical examiners office in Anchorage. The investigation into the crash is on-going. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the incident.
