One man was pronounced deceased from a gunshot wound and another was admitted to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries after Alaska State Troopers responded to a scene in Unalakleet late Sunday night.
Troopers began an investigation into the circumstances that led to the death of 31-year-old Unalakleet resident Tauna Showalter and the injury of an unidentified male while Unalakleet Police assisted with scene security at 11:05 pm Sunday.
The unidentified male was treated at the local clinic before being transported out of the community for further treatment.
The troopers are revealing little beyond their finding that the two men had been in a physical altercation shortly before the shooting incident occurred.
Showalter’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy, as the investigation into his death continues.
Showalter’s next of kin were notified.
