On Tuesday night, at 8:46 pm, Alaska State Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop at a red light at the intersection of East Cranberry Street and Juniper Street in Palmer for an equipment violation.
When contacted, the driver of the vehicle, identified by troopers as 30-year-old Palmer resident Caleb G. Bennet, bolted from the vehicle and fled on foot.

At the end of the short foot pursuit, Bennet attempted to assault the arresting officer and resisted as the officer put him under arrest according to the trooper dispatch.
Further investigation found that Bennet was under the influence of alcohol.
Bennet was charged with Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer II, DUI, Assault IV on a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.
After transport to the Palmer State Trooper Post, Bennet would not allow troopers administer a breathalyzer test. He was further charged with Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.
Bennet was remanded to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on $5,000 bail and a court approved third party.
He is due in court this afternoon at 1 pm for arraignment.
