One of Alaska West Air’s aircraft crashed at the Kustatan Bench on the west side of Cook Inlet on Thursday.

A 911 call went in to the Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center reporting an airplane crash on the Kustatan Bench on the west side of Cook Inlet on Thanksgiving morning at 11:36 am, the trooper dispatch reports.

It was reported that “the Alaska State Troopers and Rescue Coordination Center began recalling assets to respond,” but, ultimately, neither agency would respond to the crash.

The aircraft, a PA-18 Super Cub, owned by Alaska West Air, was located by another of the company’s aircraft. After locating the downed aircraft, the pilot of the second aircraft called in the coordinates of the crash site to Kenai Flight Service. A helicopter from Alaska West Air would dispatch and retrieve the pilot, identified as 55-year-old Soldotna resident Brad Adams, and his passenger, a 16-year-old male from Kenai.

The helicopter transported the pilot and his passenger directly to the Central Peninsula Hospital. Adams suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, his passenger suffered only minor injuries and so was treated and released.

NTSB was notified of the crash.
