RCC Lifts Two after Eight-Mile Lake Aircraft Crash

The pilot and passenger of a 1946 Aeronca Champion aircraft escaped their crash uninjured in a Saturday incident the trooper dispatch reported on Sunday.

At 4:07 pm on Saturday, pilot, 23-year-old Davis Dunlap texted a family member via a spot locator to report that he had flipped his aircraft, but he and his passenger were uninjured troopers revealed. Troopers were contacted in regards to the incident that took place at the Eight-Mile Lake landing strip near Skwentna.

“Dunlap reported they had no survival gear to stay the night, were in 12 inches of snow and Dunlap requested rescue,” troopers stated. Following his request, RCC was notified and a helicopter responded to the area and picked up the two men. They were transported to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for evaluation and released with no injuries.

The National Transportation Safety Board was notified of the incident and will assume incident responsibility in the crash.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
