The remains of the man reported missing from a Kenai Lake campsite on August 15th have been recovered and identified, the trooper dispatch reported on Tuesday.
34-year-old Daniel Compeau disappeared on a Saturday in mid-August. It was reported at that time by fellow campers. He walked away from the campsite and was not seen again.
When Compeau left the Kenai Lake campsite near Moose Pass, his friends said he was intoxicated. When investigated, a trail of clothing was located leading to the lake 60 feet from the campsite.
Searchers used equipment to drag a portion of the lake in their search to locate the commercial fisherman, Their search was met with without positive results. Dogs were also brought in to search for Compeau, but those efforts failed as well.
Trooper report that Compeau’s remains were located along the shoreline of Kenai Lake on last Tuesday and the remains were positively identified on Monday as those of Compeau by the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage.
Next of kin were notified.
