The search for a missing Kasigluk man came to an end on Friday after his remains were fished from the Johnson River after being listed as missing for four days.
It was on Tuesday evening that 20-year-old Walter Nicholas’s father contacted the Alaska State Troopers in Bethel to report that his son was missing since the early morning hours of that same day.Nicholas’s father reported that Nicholas was highly intoxicated and distraught when last seen.
It was the following day after the Tuesday evening missing persons report, that a boat was found floating near the village on the Johnson River. It was discovered that Nicholas may have been operating the boat the day before. Based on that information, search and rescue was initiated.
On Friday, Nicholas’s remains were recovered from the Johnson River and transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsy.
The investigation into his death is continuing.
