Remains of Missing Shageluk Man Pulled from Innoko River

rural trooperAlaska State Troopers report that the remains of a Shageluk man, missing since Friday have been found.

It was on Friday that a Shageluk man, identified as 48-year-old Robert Demienteff, went missing after he jumped out of a boat and into the Innoko River late in the evening about seven miles upriver from Shageluk. Troopers were notified of the incident at approximately 11:30 pm that night.

Searchers immediately began looking for the missing man that night. The next day, Alaska State Troopers responded to the village from Aniak and assisted in the search as well to initiate an investigation.

Volunteer searchers from the community searched throughout the weekend, and on Sunday evening at 7:37 pm, troopers were notified that Demientieff’s remains had been recovered from the Onnoko River. Demientieff was not wearing a floatation device.

Demienteieff’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage forr autopsy.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
