Volunteer searchers, that included Duluth resident, Tom Crossmon, using Crossmon’s remote-operated underwater vehicle, scoured the bottom of the Kuskokwim River, and located the remains of, who they believe is 26-year-old George Evan, one of the missing travelers that disappeared on the river in mid-December.

The body was discovered about three -quarters of a mile downstream from the original accident site.

The remains of Ralph Demantle were recovered from the icy waters three days after the trio were last seen in the community of Kwethluk and two days after an active search was initiated. Still missing is 27-year-old Sally Stone of Akiak.

When the search was taken up on December 13th, air assets located a single set of ATV tracks going into an open lead in the river, the machine was recovered a short time later, and identified as the vehicle the three village travelers were riding. No human tracks were seen leaving the area.

The search for Sally Stone continues.
