The Glenn Highway was closed down for just under an hour near Soapstone Road on Sunday afternoon after a rollover accident occurred there at around 4:30pm.
Troopers investigated the scene on the highway after EMS and Fire crews extricated 38-year-old Dawn Leonard from a 1998 Ford Ranger.
The investigation revealed that 62-year-old John Luster of New Mexico was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 south on the Glenn Highway near Soapstone Road. He was driving on the shoulder of the road, letting faster vehicles behind him pass.
Thinking that his path was clear, Luster attempted a U-turn on the highway as 23-year-old Layla Guhl of Sutton was appoaching traveling south. As a result, a collision occurred between the two vehicles causing the Ranger to roll several times on the highway.
Although both drivers, and the passenger in the Ranger were wearing their seatbelts, both Guhl and Leonard were transported to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center by ambulance to be treated for their injuries.
Luster was cited for Failing to Exercise Due Care to Avoid Collision.
