While on the "Columbia," 30 year-old Bainbridge Island resident Kaj Hauschulz was contacted by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation's Southeast Cities Against Drugs Task Force early Sunday morning at approximately 6:30 am.

An investigation while aboard the Alaska Marine Highway ferry “Columbia would find that Hauschulz to be in possession of over a half-pound of heroin. Hauschulz was promptly arrested on charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II.
Hauschulz was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center where he was remanded.
The following day, Monday, at 6 am, the Bureau’s SEACAD Unit contacted 32-year-old Deshiang Ford in Juneau. He was arrested when he arrived at a specified location to pick up the heroin that Hauschulz was transporting on the ferry. Ford was transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center where he was remanded on charges of Attempted Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II.
Hauschulz was arraigned in Ketchikan Court at 1:30 pm Monday.
Ford was arraigned in Juneau Court at 1:30 pm as well.
