It was on Tuesday of last week that the Alaska State Troopers in Nome were advised by the Brevig Mission VPSO that a person was missing from the village. The VPSO called in the report at 7:30 pm that day.
21-year-old Clarence Ray Olanna was last seen by family at about 1 am that morning.
On Wednesday, searchers would find clothing that Olanna was last seen wearing on the beach near the community.
On Thursday, five boats and two four-wheelers took up the search for Olanna. An Army National Guard Blackhawk also joined in the search and spend approximately 2.5 hours searching the land and waters around the community.
The search for Olanna continued on Friday in boats and ATVs, but still with no positive results. On Saturday, the weather conditions prevented searchers from going out on the water. Instead, searchers continued looking on land with searches extending to Lost River Point.
But, on Sunday the search was taken up with earnest once again, but unfortunately, no sign of Olanna was found.
Brevig Mission lies at the mouth of Shelman Creek on the shores of the Bering Sea. The community, with its population estimated population of 388, is 65 miles northwest of Nome and 5 miles to the northwest of Teller.
