After Alaska Wildlife Troopers in McGrath were notified of a overdue snow-machiner by concerned family members in McGrath on Thursday, it prompted an aerial search in the Department of Public Safety Cessna for an Anchorage man. That aerial search has been met thus far with limited success.
According to the report, between 7 pm and 9 pm on Wednesday, 24-year-old Casey Graham of Anchorage informed friends in the community that he was going out on a snowmachine ride. He did not return to McGrath.
A short time after a search was initiated, Casey’s orange Ski-Doo Summit was located near on open lead of water on the swiftly-running Kuskokwim River northwest of the McGrath Airport runway.
Troopers report that there were “no tracks or signs of self-rescue from the open lead of water.” The community’s VPSO, Aniak-based troopers and volunteer searchers covered the lead and the area around it until 11 pm Thursday night with no success.
A Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) has been sent to the community to aid in the search of the the river for the missing snow-machiner, and the search of the river will continue this morning.
Graham’s next of kin have been informed of the incident.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
