Searchers believe they have located the remains of Wasilla skiier, 33-year-old Dr Liam Walsh, who fell victim to an avalanche in November of 2015 in the Hatcher Pass area.
The Alaska Mountain Rescue Group located the body while conducting a planned recovery search with Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs on Wednesday for Walsh’s remains. The body was flown out by Helo 2 and turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy and positive identification.
Search efforts were hampered by adverse weather and avalanche conditions after Walsh failed to return from a skiing trip in Hatcher Pass on November 22nd.
Several aerial searches were carried out in an effort to locate Walsh, but, ground searches were deemed to risky because of the avalanche conditions. Ground searches were planned for December 17 through the 2oth, but conditions remained unsuitable and the winter search was called off.
Dr Liam Walsh worked at the laska Regional Hospital in Wasilla, he had gbeen in Alaska for less than a year when he disappeared in November.
Walsh’s next of kin were notified of the location of his presumed remains.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
