The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) Behavioral Health Division announced the hiring of Pyper M. Powell, LPC, as a behavioral health clinician for the Juneau Behavioral Health Clinic.

“We here at SEARHC are very excited about the addition of Pyper Powel to our behavioral health clinic staff.” SEARHC Juneau Behavioral Health Clinic Manager Scott Heaton, LMFT, said. “Pyper is a Licensed Professional Counselor who comes to us with a wealth of experience gained working in Washington state, Metlakatla and most recently at the Juneau Alliance for Mental Health Inc. Pyper is very passionate about the work she does and will no doubt be a great fit in our organization and a valuable addition to our clinical team.”

Pyper holds a Master of Science degree in mental health counseling from the University of Phoenix. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in kinesiology from the University of Northern Colorado, and she took undergraduate courses in communications and theater from Lake Forest College in Illinois. She holds a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential from the state of Alaska.

Before joining SEARHC, Pyper worked as a behavioral health clinician for the Juneau Alliance for Mental Health Inc. (JAMHI). She also served as interim director and behavioral health clinician for Metlakatla Indian Community. Before moving to Alaska, Pyper worked for Okanogan Behavioral Health Care in Omak, Wash., where she earned emergency service provider credentials as designated mental health professional and Native American specialist from the State of Washington.

Pyper’s medical interests include crisis stabilization, cultural competence, respect and incorporation of spiritual practice in therapy, and trauma-informed care. She enjoys spending time in nature with her husband and daughter, kayaking, hiking and berry-picking.
